Matlab/Simulink. Knowledge of distributed control
and deterministic/real-time network protocols and
real-time programming is desirable and familiarity
with PC-systems (Word, Excel, etc) and procedures
to establish technical documentation, technical
specifications, technical manuals is essential.
A good command of English is required (reading,
writing)
Training value:
The TEC-TCS department is responsible for Control
engineering and the definition of related standards
and procedures.
The position will allow a young engineer to work
in collaboration with ESO engineers in the exciting
planning phase of the world's largest new observatory.
2- Electronic Engineer
Opportunity available at:
Technical Division, Garching
(Germany)
Observatory Paranal (Chile)
Work Assignment:
The successful candidate will work within the
Electronics Department in close collaboration with
11 Engineers and 3 technicians.
She/He will be under the supervision of an Electronics
engineer and will support him in activities related
to ESO Standard Control Electronics and Equipments,
as well as instrumentation project support.
The working activities covered during the training
period will varies from the integration and test
of standard ESO control electronics systems, participations
to technical follow-up, design and implementation
of electronic control hardware to R&D and standard
equipment re-design.
Knowledge:
The candidate should have good background knowledge
in at least two of the following fields:
Motion control and servo feedback application,
CAD system and PCB design (E-PLAN, Altium Designer),
Analogue and digital circuits design (FPGA, CPLD,
etc), Knowledge of data acquisition systems, CCD
cameras, IR detectors, Basic knowledge in programming
languages like C, Lab-View, VHDL, Familiarity with
PC-systems (Word, Excel, . etc) and procedures to
establish technical documentation, technical specifications,
technical manuals, etc.
A good command of English is required (reading,
writing).
3 - Opto-Mechanical engineer
Opportunity available at:
Technical Division, Garching
(Germany)
Work Assignment:
The candidate will work in the Technical Division
under the supervision of an Optomechanical engineer.
She/ He shall have a mechanical background based
on fabrication and must be skilled with Autocad.
That will enable him to perform primarily the following
tasks:
Extract, from assembly drawing,
all the detail drawings.
Produce workshop drawings
complete with dimensions, tolerances, material,
etc.
Participate to the follow-up
of the manufacturing and to the acceptance of
the pieces.
Depending of his technical
level, he might also be asked to design some sub-systems.
4 - Mechanical Engineering/FEA
Opportunity available at:
Technical Division, Garching
(Germany)
Description:
The young engineer will support the workpackage
managers for the system analysis workpackages of
the E-ELT project (http://www.eso.org/public/teles-instr/e-elt/)
in the areas of Finite element analysis of large
structures.
Knowledge:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Good experience in FE modeling and analysis with
ANSYS.
Training Value to Applicant:
The position will allow a young engineer to work
in collaboration with ESO engineers and Consultants
in the exciting planning phase of the world's largest
new observatory.
Improvement of skills and practical experience
in FE modeling and structural Analysis.
5 - Civil Engineering
Opportunity available at:
Technical Division, Garching
(Germany)
Description:
For the E-ELT project (http://www.eso.org/public/teles-instr/e-elt/)
a new observatory is being planned with buildings,
roads and supplies for energy, water, cooling energy
etc. The young engineer will support the workpackage
managers for the infrastruture workpackages of the
E-ELT project in the definition of overall requirements
for the E-ELT buildings and civil engineering equipments
and in the preparation of a contracted study or
preliminary layouts and material/cost estimates.
Knowledge:
Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Training Value to Applicant:
The TEC-TSA (Structure and Systems Analyisis)
department is responsible for mechanical engineering
design and in the absence of a civil engineering
department takes care also about civil engineering
aspects like telescope foundations, setting up requirements
for infrastructure buldings etc. The position will
allow a young engineer to work in collaboration
