CERN hosts a large Open Access multimedia Digital Library, with almost 1 million records, among which published and unpublished literature, theses and other scientific documents, photos, videos. CERN also participate to managing the INSPIRE Digital Library, which serves 750'000 records to about 50'000 users. These documents are automatically harvested from several sources and feeds as well as produced in-house, e.g. by the digitization of existing material. According to his/her interests, the selected candidate will participate in designing and applying semi-automated procedures for the population, maintenance and expansion of the digital library, for instance by - web-based applications to harvest relevant documents - procedures for detection of duplicate records - schemes for the correct identification of authors and their articles - ingestion of large amount of digitised material not yet available on line - multi-layered presentation of related instances of the same item (published articles, conference reports, video of seminars, slides)
Special Requirements
- University background in Science or Library and Information science - The project will be tuned according to the level of computing literacy of the candidate
Training Value
- Managing, curating and populating a large digital library. - Integration of multiple sources of information in a digital library

Description
Field: high field superconducting magnets The SLHC IR phase I is the 1st approved project for the upgrade of the present LHC machine. It concerns the final focusing superconducting magnets installed on the 2 sides of the high luminosity experiments ATLAS and CMS. A total of 20 high gradient, large aperture quadrupole magnet need to be produced with their correctors units. The project is strongly support by international collaboration with France, Spain, UK and USA. Laboratories belonging to these countries will contribute in term of design, components and full system. In this frame magnetic and mechanical designs of the superconducting magnets have to be developed, integration in the cryostat has to be mastered, model and prototype production have to be followed to feed back necessary modification in the design. In addition a new production facility is being prepared and requires tooling development and optimization. The proposal is join the new inner triplet magnet core team: this team is the ultimate responsible for the technical design, engineering and procedure set up. It is also in charge of the management of the mentioned international collaboration and it will run the procurement contracts necessary for component and tooling supply.
Special Requirements
Mechanical Engineer or similar education. Background in thermodynamics and FEM analysis is of advantage.
Training Value
Participation to a new high tech project from the start, possibility to take part to the core technical design (material, mechanics, electro-magnetic, cryogenics), to the engineering and production line development. Involvement in international collaborations and international contract management. Exposure to the full sets of problems related to complex project: technical, plan and budget related, quality assurance and quality control set up
